“Quick thinking actions” by residents helped to contain the damage from a second alarm blaze on Sunday night at a State College home, according to Alpha Fire Company.

Alpha responded at about 10 p.m. to a house on the 1500 block of South Allen Street, where the rear attic was on fire. A four-man Alpha crew quickly extinguished the bulk of the fire before a ventilation hole was cut in the roof for deep-seated flames, the fire company wrote in a social media post.

Crews from Alpha and Boalsburg Fire Company, which was dispatched on a second alarm, then extinguished the fire in the attic and salvaged affected areas of the home. Firefighters and fire police were on scene for just over 90 minutes.

The Centre Region Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the blaze. No injuries were reported.

“The quick thinking actions of the occupants and neighbors prevented this fire from spreading further throughout the home.” Alpha wrote. “Quickly calling 911 and evacuating all residents allowed first responders to get ahead of the fire. When an emergency strikes, quick notification to emergency services is critical.”

Centre LifeLink EMS responded to provide firefighter rehabilitation. Undine Fire Company provided standby coverage for Alpha during the response.
